Course Description:

The Specialty Care Transport (SCT) EMT Orientation course is designed to prepare EMTs for the unique challenges and responsibilities of working within a specialized transport team. This comprehensive program introduces participants to the advanced scope of practice, equipment, and protocols utilized in SCT operations.

Participants will explore critical topics such as interfacility transport dynamics, advanced patient monitoring, communication protocols with medical teams, and an awareness level of specialized equipment used in SCT environments. Emphasis is placed on the collaboration between EMTs, and Nurses to ensure high-quality patient care during complex transports.

The course includes interactive lectures, hands-on equipment training, and scenario-based exercises to reinforce learning and build confidence. By the end of the orientation, EMTs will have the knowledge and skills necessary to function effectively as part of an SCT team, ensuring seamless and safe transport of critically ill or injured patients.

This course is ideal for EMTs transitioning to or currently working in SCT roles and seeking a deeper understanding of their expanded responsibilities in this specialized field.

  • Define SCTU
  • Outline Policy and Procedure
  • Identify Roles and Responsibilities of the Team
  • Describe to an awareness level the specialty equipment
  • Discuss Patient and Family interactions
  • Demonstrate equipment within an EMT scope of practice 

This class will occur in person. Participants must complete a post-test and course survey to receive any CEH.
