Course Title: Cricothyrotomy Essentials

Course Description: 

This workshop prepares physicians and in-hospital providers to recognize, plan, and perform surgical cricothyrotomy in high-acuity and time-sensitive situations. Students will learn to identify proper landmarks, operate a commercial surgical airway device, and apply team-based skills in realistic scenarios. The session combines case-based lecture, guided hands-on skills, and a capstone exercise using simulation and animal tissue.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

• Recognize clinical indications for surgical airway intervention in a failed or complex airway scenario
• Demonstrate proper identification of the cricothyroid membrane in patients with normal and challenging anatomy
• Perform a surgical cricothyrotomy using a standardized, commercially available device in simulated environments
