This is a two-part course. A BLS written test and skills check will be held before the scheduled course. You must demonstrate proficient CPR skills and pass the written exam to attend the instructor essentials course. Candidates will be tested in the following areas:

• Adult and Pediatric BLS skills
• BLS didactic knowledge

An AHA Instructor Course teaches the methods needed to effectively instruct others in resuscitation courses. The minimum age to become an AHA Instructor is 18 years. 

Pre-Requisites:

• You must hold a current AHA BLS Provider card.
• Must show exemplary BLS skills.
• Complete the AHA Instructor Essentials online course. Virtua will provide an access key before the class starts.
• Identify a Training Center accepting new instructors before enrolling in an instructor program (the TC hosting the course may not necessarily be the same as the primary designated TC)
• Complete an Instructor Candidate Application
• Meet all instructor status renewal requirements. You must teach the minimum number of courses in accordance with the AHA guidelines.
• Register on AHAInstructorNetwork.org and be accepted and approved by Virtua AHA Training Center to receive an Instructor ID number.
